How do I shade with a real tattoo gun?

I know how to shade with a home made one. Which I learn in prison. But the real tattoo gun is different. I can’t seem to fade out as good as a home made one and it so heavy. Any tips on this and the heaviness.

It’s a tattoo machine. Not a gun. Guns have bullets, tattoo machines make tattoos.

Maybe you should go get an apprenticeship with a real artist and learn the proper way. You already know some stuff from learning in prison, but if there’s anything the world doesn’t need it’s another idiot scratcher infecting people and not giving a damn about blood borne pathogens or sterilization. Go get a real job and make something of yourself, you could be good one day, but you’ll always be sh*t if you think you can learn everything on your own.

Of course you can’t. A coil machine vs. a battery operated rotary machine works at 500% different speeds. Your prison machine ran at about 500 hpm where as your coil machine runs at about 3-5000 hpm. You can’t use your ‘whip’ shading technique that you used in prison. The faster machine moves faster than you hand. You need to learn to tune the machine to run at a lower voltage and a longer stroke as well as a stronger stroke so that it can use larger needle groupings and still puncture the skin to the proper depth and then learn how to ‘wash-out’ your inks to stage a gradual fade. Shading can be very tricky and is actually the most dangerous form of tattooing. It is very easy to over work the skin and actually scar the person under your needle.

If you need more pointers and refuse to seek out an aprenticeship, drop me an email. I will do my best to at least get you started in the right direction to keep you from really hurting someone. Or hell, just go buy a real rotary machine, they actually make them now, and you can still use your old prison techniques.
